Japanese schools hold second-semester opening ceremonies
Japanese secondary schools Morimura Gakuen and Iwakura High School held their opening ceremonies for the second semester on September 1, 2026.
At Morimura Gakuen, the principal emphasized disaster prevention awareness and encouraged students to embrace challenges and seek help to foster growth. The ceremony included awards for student achievements in various sports, including a report from a student who won the men's javelin throw at the Inter-High School Championships.
At Iwakura High School, Principal Tsutomu Morita addressed the importance of questioning the status quo and fostering proactive learning. He reflected on recent natural disasters, including earthquakes in Kumamoto and heavy rains in Chiba, noting that peace and safety must be actively maintained. The school also announced upcoming major events, including the Iwakura Festival and a new next-generation school trip titled ‘Discovery Journey’ designed to encourage inquiry-based learning.
