Japanese schools host English and critical thinking programs

Private schools in Japan recently hosted educational programs focused on English communication and critical thinking skills for students.

Eiko Gakuen conducted a three-day English Immersion Camp from August 28 to 30 for first-year high school students. The program included workshops on intercultural understanding and debate basics led by international instructors and students. Participants engaged in formal debates across four topics, with students also serving as judges. To encourage independent research and peer discussion, the use of generative AI and Wikipedia was prohibited during debate preparation.

Salesio Gakuin Junior and Senior High School hosted the SLICE program from August 18 to 20. This initiative, which included students from 10 private schools in Kanagawa Prefecture, aimed to enhance expression and communication skills. The program featured workshops led by Harvard University students on various subjects, including AI, investment, economics, and global equality, to foster diverse perspectives and high-level discussion.
