Japanese securities firms host financial education events for children

Major Japanese securities firms are conducting summer educational programs aimed at teaching elementary school students about economics, financial systems, and investment.

SMBC Nikko Securities Inc. is hosting events at over 80 branches nationwide through late August. These sessions use quizzes and branch tours to help children understand how money works and the role of securities companies. Similarly, Nomura Securities Co. is holding large-scale events focused on foreign exchange, using dice games to simulate the mechanics of imports and currency fluctuations.

SBI Securities also held a summer festival at the Tokyo International Forum, featuring various interactive booths. The event included money seminars, workshops on the upcoming ‘Kodomo NISA’ (child-focused NISA) system, and educational activities involving cashless payments and the metaverse. These initiatives aim to foster early interest in financial literacy through hands-on experiences.
