Japanese Self-Defense Officer Charged for Intruding into Chinese Embassy in Tokyo

Tokyo District Prosecutors on July 27 charged 24‑year‑old 3rd Lieutenant Murata Akihiro of the Japan Ground Self‑Defense Force with building intrusion, violation of the Gun and Sword Law, and intimidation after he forced his way into the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo on March 24, brandishing a knife and threatening embassy staff. He had been arrested on March 26 and held in detention while prosecutors examined his criminal responsibility. The indictment cites his statements that “patriots” would punish the Chinese diplomats.
