Japanese shrines announce upcoming autumn festivals and ceremonies

Various Shinto shrines in Japan are preparing for their annual autumn festivals.

Nomi Tenmangu will hold its autumn festival on October 17 and 18, 2026. The event will feature a portable shrine procession, Yosakoi dances, and a mysterious shrine tour during the evening festival. The celebration includes diverse performances such as gagaku, drumming, hula dancing, and sign language performances, alongside flower arrangements and food stalls.

Kagoshima Gokoku Shrine will host its autumn festival, which includes solemn Shinto rituals accompanied by gagaku music and kagura dances. Following the ceremony, a commemorative lecture titled ‘Japanese History to Tell Children’ will be delivered by Ayumi Azuma, an influencer and lecturer focused on Japanese history. A luncheon will follow the lecture to allow for community fellowship.
