Japanese shrines release limited‑edition goshuin for peace and heritage

Suwa Shrine in Nagasaki City began distributing a limited series of 600 "peace goshuin" on August 9, marking the anniversary of the atomic bombing. The stamps feature cut‑paper designs of the shrine’s symbol, a dove and a peace‑prayer statue, printed on paper made from origami cranes donated to the Peace Park. Each stamp costs ¥2,000, with part of the proceeds supporting peace activities.

Ninnaji Temple in Kyoto announced on August 8 the issuance of five special goshuin, including a striking design centered on a black cat. The cat motif references Emperor Uda’s 9th‑century pet, recorded in Japan’s oldest "pet diary." The temple highlighted the historic connection and the auspicious date (8/8) as a "double‑eight" celebration, drawing enthusiastic reactions on social media.
