Japanese swimmers return after Pan Pacific Championships success

Japanese swimmers Tomoyuki Matsushita and Shin Ohashi have returned to Japan following the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships held in Irvine, USA.

Tomoyuki Matsushita, representing Toyo University, secured two gold medals in the individual medley events. While expressing satisfaction with meeting his goal of two golds, he noted he aimed for even faster times in the 400-meter event. Looking ahead to the upcoming Asian Games in Nagoya, Matsushita expressed confidence in breaking the Japanese record by aiming for a time under 4 minutes and 5 seconds.

Shin Ohashi, a high school swimmer, earned a silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke. Although he felt his third-place finish in the 200-meter breaststroke was disappointing due to tactical execution, he remains optimistic about his potential for gold at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Both athletes visited the Los Angeles Olympic venues during their trip to prepare mentally for future competitions.
