Japanese towns resume resource collection and free e‑waste pickup events
Yatsushiro City will resume regular collection of recyclable materials starting Monday, 3 August. Collection will proceed as usual unless safety at collection sites cannot be ensured, road conditions are poor, or the volume of waste makes pickup difficult, in which case delays or cancellations may occur. Residents are asked to avoid bringing disaster‑related waste to the recycling stations and to use designated disaster‑waste sites instead. Small amounts of glass, ceramics, and small appliances may still be accepted, but large volumes could strain local resources.
In Zao Town, a free collection event for used small electronic devices will be held on Monday, 17 August, from 09:00 to 11:00 at the Furusato Culture Hall parking area. The event accepts up to 45 types of items, including computers and smartphones, provided they are free of personal data and have batteries and bulbs removed. Items not on the list will not be taken, and no paid removal service will be offered.
