Japanese watch brands embrace traditional patterns and microbrand growth
Japanese watch manufacturers and microbrands are increasingly incorporating traditional Japanese aesthetics and high-performance movements into their collections.
Casio has released models featuring the ‘Seigaiha’ (wave) pattern, such as the A159 series manufactured by Yamagata Casio. Similarly, the microbrand Outline has announced the ‘ICHIMATSU’ model, which utilizes the traditional checkered pattern symbolizing prosperity.
Other notable domestic microbrands include MIRCO, which focuses on reinterpreting 1970s designs with Seiko/TMI movements, and KUOE, a Kyoto-based brand specializing in affordable antique-style watches. These brands are positioning themselves as high-quality alternatives to international luxury brands by offering sophisticated craftsmanship at more accessible price points.
