Japanese cities launch summer educational events for children

In Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, a summer‑break market tour gathered elementary‑school students and their parents for a hands‑on experience. Participants watched live auctions, tried fish‑scooping in an “ike‑su,” and entered a –45 °C freezer where bubbles froze instantly and a frozen‑banana nail‑driving demo illustrated extreme cold.

In Tokyo’s Toyosu district, organizers held a parent‑child market learning program at the central wholesale market, inviting families to explore the facilities during the school holidays.

Meanwhile, the Ehime Prefecture Niihama City General Science Museum hosted a “Working Vehicles Wonderland” exhibition. Children entered a –5 °C refrigerated truck, pulled a 4‑ton truck in a tug‑of‑war, and piloted a flight‑simulator, learning about the roles and mechanisms of everyday transport.

All three events aim to deepen children’s understanding of local industry, agriculture, and transportation while providing engaging, hands‑on activities during the summer vacation.
