Japan's craft beer industry sees new product launches and digital tools

The Japanese craft beer sector is seeing new developments in both production and digital consumer engagement. Nagahama Roman Beer has launched ‘Nagahama Koji Ale,’ a limited-edition specialty beer released in late October 2026. As part of the ‘PLAY CRAFT BEER ACTIONS’ collaborative project, the brew utilizes yellow koji from the local Happy Taro Brewery and fresh hops from Nagahama City to create a flavor profile characterized by rich umami and a crisp finish.

Simultaneously, the Sagamihara-based specialty shop lita has announced the development of ‘CraftBeerVerse,’ a dedicated mobile application aimed at connecting drinkers, shops, and brewers. Currently undergoing crowdfunding on CAMPFIRE, the app is scheduled for a preliminary release in March 2027. The initial version will feature a beer map covering approximately 2,000 locations nationwide, including breweries, taprooms, and bottle shops, alongside a manual logging system for users to record their tasting experiences.
