Japan's Digital Agency launches unified Myna App
Japan’s Digital Agency has launched the ‘Myna App’, a unified mobile platform that integrates the former ‘My Number Portal App’ and ‘Digital Authentication App’. The new application allows citizens to perform identity verification, electronic signatures, and information sharing for both government and private sector services using their My Number Card.
A key feature of the update is the enhanced support for smartphone-based identity. iPhone users can now utilize the My Number Card functions directly on their devices, enabling authentication via biometric methods like Face ID without needing the physical card. Android users will receive similar functionality for electronic certificates in late 2026.
To enhance security, the Digital Agency now requires all users to have a device screen lock (such as a PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition) enabled to use the app. While the app handles authentication and identity verification, administrative tasks like checking medical expenses or applying for various services will continue through the web-based My Number Portal.
In response to the launch, Studio Mesh has introduced ‘Myna Bridge’, a B2B service designed to help private companies and local governments integrate the Myna App into their own systems quickly and at a lower cost.
