Japan's Justice Ministry launches summer program teaching students about courts

The Ministry of Justice, together with the Judicial Education Support Association, held a summer educational event for middle‑ and high‑school students in Japan. At the Clark International High School Hokigi campus, a mock‑trial program began on 31 July 2026, featuring a sitting judge who explained courtroom procedures, sentencing considerations and the role of judges. Students observed real hearings and prepared to act as prosecutors, defence lawyers, judges and jurors in upcoming simulations.

A separate session organised by the same association and co‑hosted by the Ministry attracted about 65 students. Participants toured a courtroom, attended a mock interrogation, and heard from Ministry officials about immigration and other justice functions. In a panel, a female prosecutor explained her choice of career, noting the independence to assess evidence and make decisions. The events aimed to raise awareness of judicial careers and the workings of Japan’s legal system among young people.
