A consortium of Japanese technology firms—including Nautilus Technologies, Nomura Research Institute, Internet Initiative Japan, 1Finity, Fujitsu, Ghelia, M‑TEC and Mitsubishi Electric—partnered with the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to demonstrate a next‑generation real‑time video streaming system at the KYOJO CUP formula‑car race on Fuji Speedway. The system leverages local 5G connectivity and a "Physical AI" platform that fuses 4K in‑car camera feeds with telemetry data and a detailed 3D circuit model. The AI instantly selects the most exciting moments, edits the footage, and overlays relevant information, delivering a live, immersive viewing experience to spectators without the need for dedicated studios or specialized personnel.
The architecture links CPU servers at the track with remote GPU servers housed in power‑company substations, aligning with Japan's "Watt‑Bit" concept to optimise energy use and computing resources. The trial aims to validate low‑latency distributed processing technologies, open new business opportunities for event broadcasting, and strengthen Japan's industrial competitiveness in AI‑driven media services.
