Japan's Summer Insect Exhibitions Attract Families in Tokorozawa and Morioka

From August 5‑16, 2026, Seibu Tokorozawa Shopping Center in Saitama will host a large‑scale insect exhibition featuring a human‑size cage filled with rare beetles such as the Hercules beetle and the multicolored Nijiiro stag beetle. Visitors can touch the insects, watch a fossil‑dig activity and purchase discounted tickets with club cards.

Meanwhile, the Morioka City Children’s Science Museum in Iwate is running the “Insect Shape Exhibition” until August 16, showcasing unusual beetles including the golden‑colored Ougon‑oni stag beetle. The display highlights insect morphology and camouflage, offering educational panels and video demonstrations for school‑age children.

Both events aim to provide hands‑on learning experiences for families during the summer vacation, promoting regional tourism and interest in entomology.
