Japan's universities offer free summer science schools for students

Japan Women's University will hold its "Science Faculty Summer School 2026" from August 5‑7, targeting female high‑school students. The three‑day program offers six hands‑on courses on topics such as smartphones, ultraviolet light and cells, with both in‑person and online sessions. Participation is free, with a limit of two courses per student; applications run from June 22 to July 9, and a lottery will be used if demand exceeds capacity.

Meiji University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering will host a "Summer Vacation Science Classroom" on August 5 at its Ikuta Campus in Kawasaki, Kanagawa. Open to children from first grade through high school, the free event features eleven workshops, including building a radio and making a cabbage battery. Registration is required by July 9, with a lottery for oversubscribed classes. Both initiatives aim to spark interest in STEM fields and provide experiential learning for young learners.
