Japan's Whiskey Tastings Spotlight Culture and Asset Value
The Whiskey Culture Institute will host a special tasting on August 29, 2026, in Shibuya, Tokyo. Led by institute director Mori Tsuchiya, the event will feature seven bottles from the Shangri‑La series, including Strathmill 2014 (11‑year) and Benriach 2013 (12‑year). Attendees will receive a signed copy of either "Tibetan Landscapes" or "Ladakh‑Zanskar" to mark the 50th anniversary of Tsuchiya’s Tibetan expedition, and the participation fee is ¥7,700.
Separately, investment‑focused author Naito Shinobu discussed whiskey selection in a private tasting at Agor. He contrasted everyday high‑ball drinks with premium single‑malts, recommending that consumers enjoy mid‑range bottles while treating ultra‑rare, high‑price bottles as collectible assets. Shinobu highlighted the potential of rare whiskies as inflation hedges and long‑term capital‑gain investments.
