Jaques Wagner receives PT backing as federal probe continues in Brazil
During the national launch of the Committees Popular of Struggle in Salvador, Bahia on 15 July 2026, PT national president Edinho Silva publicly reaffirmed the party’s support for Senator Jaques Wagner. Silva said, “There is a man in Bahia who is a reason for pride for us … Jaques Wagner.”
Wagner is the subject of a Federal Police investigation under the ninth phase of Operation Compliance Zero, which examines possible links between the senator and the Banco Master scandal, including alleged benefits such as private flights, concert tickets and an apartment in Salvador. Wagner denies any wrongdoing and has not been charged. He stepped down from the Senate government leadership on 24 June, a decision made jointly with President Lula, and said he would focus on proving his innocence while supporting Lula’s campaign and the re‑election bid of Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues.
The PT continues to describe Wagner as a “depositary of the party’s trust.”
