Jaraguá do Sul and Massaranduba reduce speed limits to deter heavy trucks
Authorities in Jaraguá do Sul and Massaranduba, Santa Catarina, will reduce the maximum speed limit from 60 km/h to 30 km/h on Rua Adolfo Antônio Emmendoerfer and Estrada Rio Molha starting in November.
The measure was established by a working group comprising municipal governments and Military Police representatives. The primary goal is to increase road safety and discourage heavy trucks from using the route as an alternative path between the two cities.
Officials noted that GPS navigation apps frequently suggest this route as a fast option, leading to high volumes of heavy vehicles on a road not designed for such traffic. By lowering the speed limit, authorities aim to increase estimated travel times in navigation software, making the route less attractive to large trucks that exceed the road's weight and dimension capacities. The plan also includes enhanced road signaling to guide drivers.
