Jarcha documentary to air on RTVE exploring Spain's sociopolitical transition
The RTVE documentary ‘Generación Jarcha’ will be broadcast on La 2 this Sunday at 21:30 as part of the ‘Imprescindibles’ series. Directed by Pablo Coca and Inés Romero, the film explores the legacy of the musical group Jarcha, which was prominent in Spain during the 1970s.
The production serves as a social portrait of the Spanish Transition, using the group's music, such as ‘Cadenas’ and ‘Libertad sin ira’, to reflect the sociopolitical shift from the Franco dictatorship to democracy. The documentary uses the ‘Jarcha 5.0’ reunion concert as a narrative thread to bring together original members and the current lineup.
Beyond its musical impact, the film details how the group integrated Andalusian folklore and poetry while addressing social inequalities and communal living before the musical shifts of the 1980s.
