Jared Young hospitalized after collision with Nolan McLean
New York Mets first baseman Jared Young was hospitalized following a violent collision with teammate Nolan McLean during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. The incident occurred in the sixth inning when McLean, the Mets' starting pitcher, accidentally struck Young in the head with his knee while both players converged to field a slow ground ball hit by Justin Crawford.
Young was initially motionless on the field and required a stretcher to be transported to a local hospital. While he regained consciousness and was able to flash a thumbs-up to the crowd, he was diagnosed with concussion symptoms. Mets interim manager Andy Green reported that a CT scan performed at the hospital was negative, and Young has maintained full use of his extremities. However, Young is experiencing significant symptoms, including headaches and short-term memory loss, and has been placed on the 7-day concussion injured list.
The collision has effectively ended Young's 2026 season. The Mets lost the game 3-0 to the Phillies, who were led by a dominant performance from pitcher Aaron Nola.
