Jarno Widar finishes seventh on Alto de Aitana in Vuelta
Belgian cyclist Jarno Widar secured a seventh-place finish on the Alto de Aitana during the first week of the Vuelta a España. Despite the strong result, the 20-year-old Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe rider expressed significant frustration regarding the race dynamics.
Widar described the day as a “k*tdag” (shitty day), noting that he felt uncomfortable for much of the race as the peloton did not ride hard enough on the intermediate climbs. He spent a considerable amount of time at the back of the group, which he explained was partly a tactical choice to avoid interfering with the general classification contenders.
By staying further back, Widar aimed to overtake riders from behind rather than forcing them to create gaps. This approach proved successful on the final climb, where he found his rhythm and managed to finish among the leaders.
