Jarome Luai to play final Wests Tigers game despite PNG trip controversy

Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall has confirmed that Jarome Luai will play in his final game for the club this Sunday against the Penrith Panthers. The decision comes despite recent controversy regarding Luai’s unannounced trip to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Luai traveled via private jet to attend a golf tournament alongside PNG Prime Minister James Marape. The Wests Tigers were reportedly unaware of the trip until images appeared on social media. While the club had granted Luai permission to remain in Townsville following a medical clearance for a leg injury, his involvement in promotional activities in PNG drew criticism from some pundits.

Luai, who is set to join the Chiefs in 2028 following a 2027 stint with Parramatta, was a guest at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club. He has since returned to training with the Tigers.
