Jaromír Jágr nears potential retirement from professional hockey

Czech ice hockey legend Jaromír Jágr, 54, appears to be nearing the end of his professional career. Although he has not officially announced his retirement and remains on the Rytíři Kladno roster, he has not participated in the team's training camp or their first three preseason matches.

This absence marks a significant departure from last season, when the veteran player was active in both training and games. Jágr previously indicated in a social media broadcast that a miracle would be required for fans to see him on the ice again. His agent, Jaroslav Zidek, had previously suggested the 2024–25 season would be his last, though Jágr opted to continue.

In addition to his age, changes in his role at Kladno may influence his decision. While he remains a part-owner, he recently sold an 80 percent stake in the club to businessman Tomáš Drastil, retaining only a 20 percent share. Over a 38-season career, Jágr has recorded 2,255 regular-season games and 2,397 points.
