Jarosław Kaczyński encourages participation in Independence March
Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the Law and Justice (PiS) party, has called for participation in the upcoming Independence March in Warsaw on November 11. Describing the event as a tradition to defend Polish democracy and sovereignty, Kaczyński urged citizens to make this the largest march to date.
This shift marks a change in Kaczyński’s historical stance toward the event. Between 2011 and 2023, he attended the march only once, in 2018, to mark the centenary of Poland regaining independence. His recent participation in 2024 and 2025, following the party's loss of power, is viewed by political analysts as a strategic move to compete for right-wing voters and counter political rivals like the Confederation.
Political experts suggest that PiS's presence is also linked to complex domestic attitudes regarding Ukraine. By participating, the party aims to prevent right-wing competitors from claiming a monopoly on nationalist sentiment and to navigate the shifting landscape of Polish-Ukrainian relations.
