Jarred Kelenic released by Texas Rangers, becomes free agent

The Texas Rangers have released outfielder Jarred Kelenic, making him a free agent again. The move was reported by Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports. Kelenic, 27, appeared in seven games for the Rangers this season, recording one hit in eight at‑bats before being designated for assignment and electing free agency. He then re‑signed a minor‑league deal with Texas, but the club terminated the contract on July 27, 2026.

In Triple‑A with Round Rock, Kelenic was hitting .374 with a 1.105 OPS, five home runs and 11 doubles in 27 games, but his major‑league performance this year has been limited to a .213 average and a .539 OPS over 69 plate appearances with the Chicago White Sox and the Rangers. The former top‑five prospect, selected No. 6 overall in the 2018 draft by the New York Mets and later traded to the Seattle Mariners, has previously played for the White Sox, Atlanta Braves and Mariners. He will now seek another opportunity in MLB or possibly an overseas league.
