Jarrett Tenebe faces backlash over AK-47 threats
Jarrett Tenebe, the Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has drawn significant criticism following inflammatory remarks made during a party rally in Benin City. Tenebe stated that anyone attempting to obstruct the party’s goal of securing 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election should be prepared to face ‘AK-47 fire.’
In subsequent discussions, Tenebe defended his comments and discussed his political ambitions. He also expressed personal hostility toward Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The remarks have raised concerns regarding voter intimidation and potential breaches of the Constitution and the Electoral Act, leading to calls for investigations by the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).
