Jarrod Witts re-signs with Gold Coast Suns

Veteran ruckman Jarrod Witts has signed a two-year contract extension with the Gold Coast Suns, committing to the club through at least his 35th year. The 33-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Despite interest from other clubs, Witts chose to remain with Gold Coast even after losing the primary ruck role to 24-year-old Ned Moyle. Suns coach Damien Hardwick praised Witts for his selfless approach, noting that the former captain has been actively supporting Moyle’s development through training and mentorship.

The new deal could potentially see Witts playing until his 36th birthday if the club achieves a deep finals run in 2028. While his playing time is not guaranteed with Moyle now established as the top ruckman, Hardwick described Witts as a vital part of the club’s fabric and legacy.
