Jas wins Street Sense Stakes at Churchill Downs

The chestnut colt Jas secured a narrow victory in the Grade 3, $200,000 Street Sense Stakes at Churchill Downs on Sunday. Ridden by Keith Asmussen and trained by Steve Asmussen, Jas overcame a lack of dirt racing experience to win by a neck against Staunch.

Jas earned 10 points toward the Kentucky Derby qualifying series. The race saw the betting favorite, Card Man, lead early before fading to fifth. Staunch, trained by Brendan Walsh, mounted a late bid but could not overtake the winner. Mystik Bayou finished third, 5 1/4 lengths behind Jas.

Jas, a son of Justify, previously competed in turf races at Ellis Park and Kentucky Downs before making this successful transition to a dirt track.
