Jashore expatriate begins hunger strike over unpaid debt

An expatriate worker, Al Amin, launched a symbolic hunger strike in Jashore to recover 1,020,000 BDT owed to him. The protest took place in front of the ‘Raunak Sunflower’ tower on RN Road.

Al Amin claims he paid the sum to Shahriar Palash four years ago to purchase a shop. However, after the payment, Palash failed to register the property. Al Amin later discovered that Palash was not the sole owner and that there were legal and familial disputes regarding the shop's ownership among partners. When Al Amin requested his money back, Palash allegedly used various tactics to avoid repayment.

Shahriar Palash admitted to the situation, citing family issues with his partners as the reason the shop could not be transferred. He stated he does not intend to embezzle the funds and promised to repay the full amount once the property is sold to another party.
