Jasicach commemorates victims of Nazi deportations to Treblinka
A monument has been erected in Jasice to honor approximately 20,000 Jewish residents from Opatów, Ożarów, Tarłów, and surrounding areas who were deported to the Treblinka extermination camp in October 1942.
According to Tomasz Domański of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), the victims were gathered in a collective ghetto in Tarłów before being forced to march or be transported via carts to the Jasice railway ramp. The deportation process was described as extremely brutal, with victims being forced into train wagons under violent conditions.
The memorial was organized by the Society of Friends of the Opatów Land and the International Group of Descendants and Friends of Opatów. Funding for the monument was provided by a descendant of survivors whose parents had lived in Opatów and survived Nazi forced labor and concentration camps. The project was designed by artist Adam Hanuszkiewicz.
