Jasikan midwives assist roadside delivery in Ghana

Two midwives from the Jasikan Municipal Hospital, Monica Fiati and Francisca Logosu, successfully assisted a woman in delivering a baby at a roadside in the Oti Region of Ghana. The incident occurred at White House Junction on Saturday, August 15, after the mother, Mukaila Talahatu, became stranded while attempting to reach the hospital.

Ms. Talahatu reported that she had visited the hospital the previous day but was advised to return home as she was not yet due. When labor pains began around 03:00 on Saturday, she was unable to immediately secure transportation. While attempting to walk toward the medical facility with her sister, she reached an advanced stage of labor.

Upon receiving a distress call, the midwives rushed to the scene. By the time they arrived, the baby’s head had already emerged, necessitating an immediate roadside delivery. Following the birth, both the mother and newborn were transported to Jasikan Municipal Hospital for medical assessment. While the mother experienced minor complications following the delivery, she and the infant are receiving necessary care.
