Jasmine Crockett faces backlash over Chris Brown appearance

Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett faced criticism after appearing onstage at AT&T Stadium during the Usher and Chris Brown R&B Tour. During the event, Crockett stated, “Right now, we are experiencing Black joy to the highest level!” and remarked that her presence was to document the moment in the Congressional Record because of Chris Brown.

The comments sparked backlash from various commentators and activists. Democratic strategist Ameshia Cross described the move as “ridiculous,” arguing that using a Congressional role to uplift a known abuser of women is “disgusting.” Writer Roxane Gay also labeled the incident a “bizarre and unacceptable misstep.”

Texas State Representative Venton Jones, who was also onstage, issued an apology, stating, “I want to acknowledge the women, the Black women, whom my actions have hurt.” Crockett has not publicly addressed the incident, and neither Brown nor Usher responded to requests for comment.
