Jasmine Guy addresses online criticism following ‘A Different World’ revival

Actress Jasmine Guy has addressed online criticism regarding her appearance following the premiere of the Netflix revival of ‘A Different World’. The 64-year-old star, who originally played Whitley Gilbert in the 1980s series, faced social media commentary comparing her current appearance to her younger years.

Guy responded to the negativity by stating, “The internet can be brutal to women as we grow older. It asks us to celebrate life while criticizing every sign that we’ve lived it.” She emphasized that beauty and joy do not have an expiration date and encouraged people to focus on making memories rather than judging one another.

Other public figures, including Melyssa Ford, have defended Guy, with Ford criticizing the comments as a form of internalized misogyny. The discussion also drew commentary from the hosts of ‘The View’, including Whoopi Goldberg, who praised the actresses involved.
