Jasmine Guy responds to aging criticism amid 'A Different World' revival
Actress Jasmine Guy is addressing online criticism regarding her appearance following the release of the Netflix revival of 'A Different World'. The series, which premiered on September 24, brings back iconic characters like Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne to Hillman College, introducing a new generation of students.
As the 64-year-old actress returned to her most famous role, some social media users criticized her appearance, comparing her current look to her appearance in the original series from the late 1980s. Guy responded to the commentary via Instagram, stating, “The internet can be brutal to women as we grow older. It asks us to celebrate life while criticizing every sign that we’ve lived it.”
She emphasized that while aging brings changes, “beauty, style, and joy don’t have an expiration date,” and encouraged followers to focus on making memories and loving one another rather than judging appearances. The revival has been noted for its cultural significance, continuing the show's legacy of exploring life at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
