Jasmine Paolini pulls out of Rome Open doubles over foot issue
Italian world No.7 Jasmine Paolini withdrew from the women's doubles at the Rome Open after a minor foot problem, ending her defence of the title she won with Sara Errani in 2025. The pair had reached the round of 16 before the withdrawal, which gave the Czech duo Linda Noskova and Tereza Valentova a place in the quarter‑finals.
Paolini also exited the singles draw in the third round, losing to Elise Mertens. The double forfeiture means she will lose 880 of the 1,000 ranking points she was defending, dropping from No. 7 to No. 13 in the doubles rankings – her first fall out of the top ten since June 2024. The loss adds pressure ahead of the French Open, where she hopes to compete despite the injury.
The withdrawal follows a standout 2025 season in which Paolini captured both the singles and doubles titles at Rome and later won the French Open doubles with Errani, cementing the pair as Italy’s leading women’s doubles team.
