Jasmine Paolini targets deeper run after qualifying for Roland Garros second round

Italian No. 1 Jasmine Paolini secured a place in the second round of the 2026 French Open, where she will face Argentine qualifier Solana Sierra, ranked 68 in the WTA. Paolini’s first‑round win over Britain's Emma Raducanu set up a potentially tough section of the draw, with future opponents such as Sorana Cîrstea, Elena Rybakina, Iga Świątek or Aryna Sabalenka mentioned as possible later challenges.

Speaking at a press conference before her opening match, Paolini said the first round would be difficult and emphasized that she is “adjusting the aim” of her game. She highlighted the need to improve technically, mentally and physically, and noted that playing doubles is not an obligation for her, choosing to focus on singles performance during the tournament.
