Jasna Góra hosts National Harvest Festival for Polish farmers
Farmers from across Poland gathered at Jasna Góra for the National Jasna Góra Harvest Festival (Ogólnopolskie Dożynki Jasnogórskie) to give thanks for the year's crops and seek blessings for those working in agriculture.
The central Mass was led by Bishop Krzysztof Nitkiewicz of Sandomierz, with co-celebrant Bishop Leszek Leszkiewicz, the delegate of the Polish Episcopate Conference for the Pastoral Care of Farmers and Beekeepers. Attendees included President Karol Nawrocki, government representatives, and various members of parliament.
During the ceremonies, Bishop Leszkiewicz emphasized the importance of food security and the need to reduce food waste. He also addressed the challenges faced by European farmers, noting that current regulations from the European Union and elsewhere often fail to provide sufficient support for local producers. He advocated for greater respect for farmers, suggesting they should be treated with the same regard as academic or political leaders.
