Jasola: 15-year-old boy's body recovered from drain after 75-hour search

The body of Mithun, a 15-year-old Class 8 student, was recovered from an open drain in Jasola village, southeast Delhi, following a multi-day search operation. The teenager fell into the drain on Saturday morning while attempting to retrieve a kite.

The search, which involved the Delhi Fire Service, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and divers, lasted approximately 75 hours. His body was eventually found on Tuesday afternoon near the Shaheen Bagh Metro station, trapped in a pile of garbage approximately 500 metres downstream from where he fell.

The incident has sparked significant local outcry regarding the lack of safety measures for open drains. In response to allegations of negligence, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) suspended a junior engineer from the South East (Central) Zone. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed officials to determine the drain's jurisdiction and take action against those responsible for any lapses in maintenance or safety.
