Jason Isaacs addresses ‘The Salt Path’ controversy

Actor Jason Isaacs has addressed the controversy surrounding the film adaptation of ‘The Salt Path’ ahead of its United States release. The film, starring Isaacs and Gillian Anderson, is based on the memoir by Raynor Winn, which details her and her husband Moth’s experience with homelessness and a terminal neurological disease.

The controversy stems from an investigation by The Observer, which questioned several claims in Winn’s book, including the circumstances of their homelessness and aspects of her husband’s illness. Allegations suggested that Winn had misrepresented her financial situation and personal history.

Speaking on the ‘Kermode on Film’ podcast, Isaacs described the upcoming publicity tour as an ‘interesting experience’ given the scrutiny. While acknowledging that certain elements have been questioned, he maintained that the film remains a ‘beautiful film’ and that much of the story is ‘still completely valid.’

Gillian Anderson previously described the situation as ‘very unfortunate,’ noting that the film had been performing well in the UK before the investigation was published. She expressed hope that audiences would view the film as its own entity, separate from the disputed claims.
