Jason Martinelli shares tips to reduce passenger exhaustion during flights

Jason Martinelli, Chief Pilot and Director of Flight Operations at Cirrus Aviation Services, has identified several common passenger behaviors that contribute to exhaustion after flying.

One primary issue is the extremely dry cabin air, which can lead to dehydration, headaches, dry eyes, and fatigue, even on shorter flights. To mitigate this, Martinelli recommends that passengers begin hydrating well before boarding the aircraft and continue drinking water throughout the flight.

Other contributing factors to travel exhaustion include prolonged sitting, which can impair circulation and cause stiffness or swelling in the limbs, and jet lag from crossing time zones. Martinelli suggests wearing comfortable clothing, avoiding excessive alcohol, and standing up to stretch whenever it is safe to do so during long-haul flights.
