Jason Salazar announces retirement as Visalia Police Chief

Visalia Police Chief Jason Salazar has announced his retirement, effective at the end of the year. His departure concludes more than 30 years of service to the Visalia Police Department.

Salazar began his career with the department in October 1993 as a Community Services Officer and was promoted to police officer in 1996. He served in various capacities and roles before being named Police Captain in 2011 and subsequently appointed Chief of Police in June 2015.

In addition to his local duties, Salazar served as the President of the California Police Chiefs Association. Visalia Mayor Brett Taylor praised Salazar’s leadership, stating he has led the department with “honor and integrity.” The city will begin a search for a successor following his retirement.
