Jasprit Bumrah faces new Ranji Trophy requirement for Test cricket
New administrative and technical regulations have been introduced regarding player fitness for Test cricket. To qualify for the upcoming Test series in New Zealand, prominent Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may be required to prove his match fitness through first-class cricket.
According to reports, Bumrah must participate in either a Ranji Trophy match on home soil or a first-class match for 'India A' in New Zealand conditions before being selected for the Test playing XI. This requirement follows a period where Bumrah has primarily participated in limited-overs formats, such as T20 Internationals and the IPL, due to a knee injury.
The selection committee maintains that training in nets or playing T20 cricket is insufficient to demonstrate the physical endurance required for the rigors of Test cricket. Bumrah is currently awaiting final fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (Center of Excellence) ahead of a scheduled T20 International series against Afghanistan.
