Jasprit Bumrah to miss India‑Sri Lanka Test series, Aquib Nabi in contention
India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will miss the two‑Test series against Sri Lanka after the BCCI medical team ruled his left‑knee injury not fully recovered. The injury, sustained while fielding in the July 16 ODI versus England, left his knee swollen and required an injection as part of a long‑term rehabilitation plan. Bumrah has not bowled since that match and was also ruled out of the final ODI at Lord’s.
The medical staff at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru advised against an immediate return, fearing that early bowling could aggravate the problem and keep him sidelined longer. Consequently, he will be unavailable for the series that begins on 15 August at Galle International Stadium, with the second Test scheduled for 23 August at Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club. The series forms part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025‑27.
With Bumrah out, selectors are expected to name a replacement. Jammu & Kashmir seamer Aquib Nabi (also spelled Auqib) is the frontrunner, having taken more than 100 wickets in the last two Ranji Trophy seasons and playing a key role in J&K’s recent success. India also faces other injury concerns: fast bowlers Harshit Rana (hamstring), Nitish Kumar Reddy (quadriceps), Washington Sundar (hamstring) and Akash Deep (back stress) are unavailable for at least the first Test.
