Jaume Puig Junoy proposes funding model for pharmaceutical geopolitical shifts

Economist Jaume Puig Junoy has proposed a strategy to address the impact of the United States’ ‘Most Favored Nation’ (MFN) policy on the European pharmaceutical sector. In a study published by Funcas, Puig Junoy argues that pharmaceutical policy is increasingly intersecting with industrial, commercial, and geopolitical objectives.

To protect European innovation and production without draining healthcare resources, he suggests that costs associated with industrial or economic objectives in drug pricing should be covered by a specific fund from the General State Budgets (PGE). He advocates for a coordinated European response rather than isolated national actions to manage international price references and pharmaceutical financing.
