Javan cobra evacuation in Kuningan highlights human-wildlife overlap

In Kuningan, Indonesia, fire department officials successfully evacuated a one-meter-long Javan cobra from a resident's kitchen cabinet on Tuesday night. The snake was discovered after residents heard hissing sounds coming from beneath a kitchen cupboard, causing significant fear among the household.

The incident highlights a broader trend of increasing human-wildlife interaction in Indonesia. As natural habitats are converted into residential areas, farms, and roads, species like the cobra have adapted to human environments. These settlements often provide abundant food sources, such as rodents and lizards, as well as shelter in unmaintained shrubbery, woodpiles, and building crevices.
