Javier Bardem stars in Rodrigo Sorogoyen film ‘L’essere amato’

The film ‘L’essere amato’ (The Beloved), directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen and starring Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo, is scheduled for theatrical release in Italy on November 12, 2026. Distributed by Movies Inspired, the Spanish-French co-production follows a famous, temperamental director who must reconcile with his daughter, an actress, on a film set.

In the film, Bardem portrays Esteban Martinez, a powerful and domineering figure. Discussing the role, Bardem addressed the themes of patriarchy and toxic masculinity, stating that such systems are detrimental to both men and women. He noted that the character reflects a type of behavior rooted in historical education that persists globally.

The film has already been featured at the Cannes Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. Before its wide release, it will be presented in the ‘Best of’ section at the 21st Rome Film Festival.
