Javier Casquero reports 637 death threats following old controversy
Former footballer and current sports analyst Javier Casquero has reported receiving 637 death threats within a 24-hour period. The surge in hostility follows a resurfaced controversy involving a match between Getafe and Racing de Santander.
The tension stems from a 2008 Copa del Rey semifinal where Casquero, playing for Getafe, scored a goal against his former club, Racing de Santander. The incident became controversial because an opposing player, Ezequiel Garay, was injured on the pitch during the play. Casquero’s celebration of the goal drew intense criticism from Racing fans at the time.
The recent wave of threats was triggered by social media interactions involving journalist Ángel García, which reignited the debate over the 2008 incident. Casquero stated that the threats extended to include derogatory comments directed at his family members.
