Javier “Chicharito” Hernández signs with Atlético Dallas for 2027 USL debut
Mexican striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, the all‑time leading scorer for Mexico, has agreed to a two‑year contract (with an option for a third year) with the newly formed Atlético Dallas. He becomes the club’s inaugural player ahead of its first season in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship, the second tier of professional football in the United States, scheduled to begin in March 2027.
Atlético Dallas, founded in November 2024, will play home matches at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas and is led by head coach Peter Luccin, a former player and assistant at FC Dallas. Hernández, 38, last appeared for Chivas Guadalajara in late 2025 and has spent 2026 working as a television analyst. His signing aims to give the expansion franchise immediate credibility and to help build its youth academy and fan base before the team’s competitive debut.
The move adds to Hernández’s career résumé, which includes spells at Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham United, Sevilla and LA Galaxy. The club’s owners aim to leverage his international profile to promote soccer growth in the Dallas region.
