Javier Cubillas signs with Movistar Team through 2029

Spanish climber Javier Cubillas, 19, has been promoted to the Movistar Team WorldTour squad on a contract that runs until 2029. The rider advanced through the team’s development pathway, joining the junior Baqué Movistar Team in 2025, moving to the Movistar Team Academy a year later, and becoming the first cyclist to complete the full progression to the WorldTour level.

Team director Sebastián Unzué highlighted the signing as a milestone for the squad’s youth programme, noting Cubillas’ recent results – a second place at the Clasica de Pascua, a tenth‑place finish in the Giro d’Italia Next Gen overall classification and the best young rider jersey, plus strong performances in the Lieja‑Bastoña‑Lieja U23 race.
